Class description

Instalments: Pay a deposit of 60% of the total price now and 40% of the remaining amount two days before the course starts! (Final instalment can be found on the bottom of general class page)

Finding the comedy in both long-form and short-form scenes requires strongly defined characters. You also need to be able to listen and build on your teammates’ ideas and offers, as well as being ready to support at all times. All good stories are reliant on strong characters, and in this course we will focus on giving you the tools and confidence to create strong comedic characters that will elevate your scenes in whatever style of improv you are doing.

You’ll learn:

To use truth and everyday life observation to inspire characters.

To listen for the characters Key Behavioural Indicators (K.B.I).

To commit to choices and where the focus of the scene needs to be.

To use physicality, mannerisms and tone of voice to inform characters and drive the comedy.

To sustain the game of the scene and how characters can use their K.B.I.

All our standard courses run for 8 weeks (1 class per week lasting 2 hours). Classes are either in the evening on weekdays or during the day on weekends. Included in the Character course are the following:

A free field trip with your fellow students and teacher to see a show at the theatre

An ICC Student card that gives you free entrance to nICCe Sundays shows and discounts at the bar at the ICC Theatre.

Two free MainStage show tickets

Important

Students must attend at least 6 classes in order to pass to the next level.

Practical Information: All of our courses are conducted in a safe and very supportive way by our experienced ICC teachers. Participants are kindly requested to bring personal water from home for all classes. We highly encourage students to sign up at least one week before class starts.

Teachers

Marius Lathey

Marius is one of our veteran performers at the ICC Theatre and also one of our most experienced teachers and corporate workshop facilitators. After completing his ICC training he further went on to study with some of the world's best improvisers. Marius became an ICC performer back in May 2016 with a background in dance, theatre, film and television. He later joined the ICC teaching faculty, working with hundreds of students and facilitating improv workshops for some of Denmark's biggest companies. Marius Lathey has appeared in short films, commercials, theatre plays and is one of the hosts of the podcast Coping in Copenhagen. In the summer 2021 Marius took the role as the Artistic Director of The ICC Theatre.
