Class description

Some days the hardest part of work isn't the work. It's the email that gets under your skin, or the meeting where you said something you regretted on the way home.

Emotional intelligence is the skill of noticing what's happening in you and in the people around you, and choosing what you do next. Psychologist Daniel Goleman's work showed how much it shapes the way people lead and work together. Like any skill, it gets stronger with practice, and this class gives you four weeks of it.

What you'll work on

  • Week 1: Self-awareness. What your body does before you speak, and how to name what you feel precisely.
  • Week 2: The pressure moment. What stress does to your thinking, the brain's fight-or-flight response, and how to get your thinking back before you answer.
  • Week 3: Empathy. Listening for what sits under the words, and stepping into the other person's side of a situation.
  • Week 4: Responding well. Tone, timing and status, practised on real situations you bring from work.
  • Each week ends with one small thing to try at work before the next session.

    You'll leave with

  • Earlier awareness of your own reactions
  • A simple way to pause and respond under pressure
  • Better listening in difficult conversations
  • A certificate for your 4-week training
  • Who it's for

Anyone whose job runs on other people: managers, client-facing roles and colleagues in busy teams.
