Class description

FUNdamentals Part 2 is the second half of our ‘FUNdamentals’ foundation course and picks up where Part 1 left off. So, you'll continue to develop the key skills of Improv (Yes, and…, active listening, non-judgment, embracing mistakes, making connections, leading and being led, support, and so on).

Now that you have been introduced to the key skills, in Part 2 we start to implement them within the framework of creating improvised scenes. It might sound scary, but as you know from Part 1, we ease our way as a group through every step of this process. But we also assume that, as you’ve signed up for Part 2, you are up for the challenge!

So, as well as reinforcing the basic principles practised in Part 1, you will also:

  • explore scene creation techniques (creating imaginary environments and objects)
  • start to experiment with comedy and creating comedic characters
  • become more comfortable expressing yourself in front of others
  • learn how to support each other through real teamwork
  • embrace the challenge and fun in not knowing what’s going to happen next!
  • All our standard courses run for 8 weeks (1 class per week lasting 2 hours). Classes are either in the evening on weekdays or during the day on weekends.

Included in your Part 2 course are the following:

  • A free field trip with your fellow students and teacher to see a show at the theatre
  • An ICC Student card that gives you free entrance to nICCe Sundays shows and discounts at the bar at the ICC Theatre.
  • We also have a friendly community of fellow students and improvisers for you to join. Check out our nICCe Sundays community show night in our Show Listings page.

    Practical Information:

All of our courses are conducted in a safe and very supportive way by our experienced ICC teachers. Participants are kindly requested to bring personal water from home for all classes.

We highly encourage students to sign up at least one week before class starts.

Important Note: To enrol in improv classes, students need to be at least 18 years old.

Disclaimer: Most of the exercises involve movement, collaboration, and physical interaction with others, including standing, walking, or using your body in various ways. While modifications and alternatives can often be provided, improv as an art form relies on the principles of mutual interaction. If you have any specific concerns regarding physical and sensory accessibility, or communication preferences, please reach out to us in advance.

Instalments: Pay a deposit of 60% of the total price now and 40% of the remaining amount two days before the course starts! (Final instalment can be found on the bottom of general class page)

    Lucy Vogelsang O’Dwyer

Before that she studied theatre and acting at Kinsale College in Ireland, and has a degree in Performing Arts from Sunderland University (where she played Lord Farquaad in Shrek the Musical). Lucy has been teaching since 2025. She loves improv because it allows everyone to have a part in creating characters and playing together. She loves to collaborate and be inspired by her fellow team mates and her students, who are hilarious!
