Class description

You know the answer. You've thought it through. And still you sit there while someone else says it. Or you're in front of a room, the slide won't load and your mind goes blank.

This class is about getting your voice into the room, in meetings, in presentations and in the questions you didn't see coming. You won't memorise a script. You'll practise thinking on your feet until it stops feeling like a risk.

What you'll work on

  • Week 1: Quieting the inner critic. Speaking before the sentence is perfect.
  • Week 2: Presence. Voice, body and eye contact, and staying with your audience instead of your slides.
  • Week 3: Thinking on your feet. Unprepared talks, slides you've never seen and awkward questions from the group.
  • Week 4: Your story. Building a short talk from your own work and giving it to the group.
  • Each week ends with one small thing to try at work before the next session.

    You'll leave with

  • The habit of speaking up earlier
  • Ways to recover calmly when something goes wrong
  • Confidence with questions you didn't prepare for
  • A short talk about your own work, ready to use
  • A certificate for your 4-week training
  • Who it's for

Anyone who stays quiet when they shouldn't, or dreads the next presentation.

    Teachers

    Gordon Torbet

Gordon is one of the few performers and trainers at ICC with a professional acting background. But he was happy to give up the scripts and rehearsals more than 15 years ago for the joy of improvising. Now he is one of Denmark's most experienced improvisers and teachers. Also he's one of the most hilarious character improvisers we have at the ICC. Gordon loves the community, and teaching people the skills of improv.
